Welcome to Yvette Butterworth's Math Site

Many people have the preconception that teachers teach only because that is the best they can do! Well, that is not why I teach!! If you would have asked me at 5 what I wanted to do when I grew up, you would have gotten the answer that eventually became my career -- teacher! As a child I would spend hours playing teacher, and now I get to do it every day for real! I think I am truly fortunate!

I began teaching in math in 1990, while completing my undergraduate degree in Mathematics at CSU Chico. I taught refresher courses in basic math skills for those preparing for the Elementary Level Math Exam. I also tutored students in math through the department tutoring center as well as privately. Upon completion of my BS in Mathematics (emphasis in Statistics) in the Fall of 1992, I moved to the SF Bay Area where I began working for Challenger Schools. After helping to open two new schools in Challenger system, working as an administrator in Challenger's Sunnyvale school and teaching and substituting for Challenger, I returned to CSU Hayward to obtain my Master's in Statistics. In May of 1997, I completed my degree and began working for Gavilan Community College in Gilroy. During the Fall of 1997 I also began teaching for Evergreen Valley College in South San Jose and Hartnell College in Salinas.
